PATRICIA ANNIE GAYE

(nee Pope)

Peacefully on Saturday June 8, 2019 at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg Pat passed away at the age of 88.

Pat was predeceased by her husband Douglas (1991), brother Fred, brother-in-law Joseph and sisters-in-law Pauline, Patricia, Phyllis and Florence as well as her parents Fredrick and Annie Pope.  She is survived by her daughter Linda, son Donald and his wife Narda and their daughters Zarah and Maia.  As well as brothers Bill, Art and Bob (Evelyn), brother-in-law Steve and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pat was born and raised in Melita, MB the younger sister to four older brothers. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Brandon University in 1953 and went to work for Great West Life before relocating to Vancouver in 1960.  Pat and family returned to Winnipeg in 1972 where she later began working for Western Canada Lotteries, retiring in 1992.

Pat was very involved with Brownies and Cub Scouts remaining a Brown Owl leader long after her daughter had aged out of the program.  She loved camping and spent a lot of time at Miller’s Campground with her husband Douglas and their dog Taura.  Pat went “Back to School” in 1993 attending U of W continuing education classes twice a week for 20 years. Mom met her close friend Margaret while attending these classes.

With respect to Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral.  Interment of the cremains will take place later in the summer at the Gaye family plot at Hillside Cemetery, Portage la Prairie.

Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in stories and condolences for the family by visiting Pat’s memorial page at EthicalDeathCare.ca.

Mom loved cats from her first cat Tiger in 1963 to her current cat Buddy who misses her very much. If friends so desire donations in remembrance may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of their choice.

The family would like to thank the WFD paramedics, EMT’s, ER staff and the nurses of 5 North for caring for our Mom.
